Berserker , why would you say such a thing ? you singled out U.S. pilots like nobody else
ever did such a sad thing , not fair .
When U.S. pilot did bail out over Japanese territory you know what happened next , right ?
your head will be cut off , yeap , is that a nice treatment of U.S. pilots ?
I don't think so .
I would always prefer to be shot in my chute than having my head chop off on the ground .
If you take a look at the bigger picture considering slaughter of so many civilians and
captured allied soldiers by SS , you're thinking now of two German pilot who might got shot
in his chute ?
It's sad indeed but what's worse if you compare much bigger picture ? .
Why did German preferred to surrender to U.S. forces when there was a chance ? because
of much better treatment they got and everybody knew that .
Not sure about this discussion .  :-X

Well, treatment than received by an American pilot, when he fell into Japanese territory, is one thing, but there was always a tacit agreement among pilots, some chivalry among pilots...

The fate of the German pilots, who fell into Russian hands, or, viceversa was always terrible, no strafing each other, when they fell in parachute.

Besides, I do not know of similar cases, with British pilots.

However, if there are documented several cases of American pilots...

It is also assumed that the Allies were the righteous, they were not to commit war crimes deliberately

Creo que eres argentino cierto? me cuesta horrores mantener un debate en ingles, si quieres lo podemos hacer en castellano  ;)

S!

HG, all sides did chute shooting or strafing a downed pilot, which is sad. Bomber crews bailing out got killed by Japanese civilians if the police/military did not get there in time. German soldiers were attacked and killed after armistice etc. NO side was innocent, not even the "winners". Sadly humanity has not learned from the world wars but still keep committing all kind of stuff :( We never learn.

Flanker  :) ,
I just tried to counter Berserker's post to bring at least some fairness to it as
this discussion that U.S. pilots are known for shooting enemy pilots who bailed out
can start a pretty nasty flame war .
This is not about me , I didn't started this .  :)

S!

Was not pointing at you ;) The whole thing of the who did what is so useless, everyone did it and still do. We never learn.

Can anyone know after these many years what the pilot saw in the clip of the guys running up the beach? I have that film on DVD. It is considerably clearer. Honestly what the one man is carrying could easily be a rifle. Were they shooting at the enemy plane before this guncam was filmed? Was this action perhaps at the edge of some military installation? We can't judge that from the limited view of this short film. All we see is what we see with no idea when and where it was shot. It is tiresome to read over and over again how blood thirsty some of you view the U.S. pilots to be while proclaiming the "chivalry" of the other combatants. The strafing of downed aircrew and/or civilians didn't start after the entry of the U.S. into WWII. You're kidding yourself if you think so.

Exactly. There was a switch in the cockpit turn on the gun camera independent of the firing of the guns.
