Outstanding Gun Camera Raw Footage from Japan-1945
« on: October 09, 2010, 05:31:51 AM »

I know you guys must have seen 99% of all available guncam footages on YouTube and I've seen many of them also but today I discovered this one: Guncamfootage filmed in Japan by the USAAF.
Dogfights, attacking factories and airfields, strafing traincolumns (note the ricochet), etc...

See those 2 soldiers(?) run when the bullets hit the beach all around them.  :o

What makes You think that they are soldiers ??   Unfortunately it`s a fact that US Pilots shot at everything moving during the last stage of war !

 ???
Excuse me? Did I say they were soldiers? No.
I don't know whether they were soldiers or not and therefor I typed in a question mark after the word 'soldiers'.

I saw this film on TV in the early '80s.  It's been burned in my memory and I haven't seen it since so thanks.  It was a documentary about P-51 missions from Iwo to Japan.

Thanks for sharing - strange, I always find myself caught between fascination and horror watching this stuff: it looks amazing (the flying point of view, the bullets spraying around, smoke, fire ) while at the same time you know that the destruction is aimed at human beings. While some are clearly military targets and therefore justified, others attacks seem to be random targets of opportunity.

I remember reading about the last year of the war in The Netherlands, where esp the US pilots had a reputation for shooting up anything (ferries, passenger trains, fishing boats and anything that moved on the road, hell.. even cattle! ), killing allied civilians and causing lots of unnecessary destruction.

Funny  :D ,
UnknownWW2InColor released only 6 minutes of Pacific footage 4 days
after I released 15 minutes of the whole footage except for cutting out
pretty much boring ground crew briefing , yet they got 69,702 hits
thus far while much better 15 minutes footage with included bonus at
the beginning and at the end got 721 hits only L.O.L.  :D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I wish my YouTube user name was " UnknownWW2InColor "  :D

Uufflakke , I posted the whole video thing on September 23, 2010  ;D

The US pilots, had a nasty habit of strafing enemy pilots who had parachuted  :(, both in the Pacific theater, as in European....

I say this because I've read testimonies from American pilots, the last one in the Osprey book "Corsair Aces of World War 2"

Nothing to do with the demonstrated chivalry for pilots like  Saburo Saki, and Hans Peter Eder

If Egon Mayer had finished  Robert a S. Johnson in his damaged P-47, had not become a pilot so famous, and certainly never would have shot down to Hans Philipp...

I've never read anything about an act of clemency by an American fighter pilot

Franz Schwaiger and Josef Zwernemann for example, two aces death by strafing hanging from its parachute  :(, and were not the only pilots killed in this way, the practice was fairly widespread
