I really like the retextured Iwo Jima map. I think it shows the pre-invasion vegetation quite well. Most people are not aware that the island wasn't just dark sand before the intense bombardment began. There were bushes and even some trees.

Thanks mate :) yeah definitely it's better as preinvasion map even if I use also for other missions :) if I have a little time maybe I can give another try to a postinvasion version using pre as a template but only if I can find a fast way to make it look great, won't dedicate more than 3 or 4 hours.

Well... my B24's, the Navy and heavy artillery have spent this morning bombing Iwo Jima ;)

Ladies & Gentlemen, Iwo Jima post-invasion:

I have a request for white-cat. Please... could you repaint my North-Vietnam map? I really hate the textures it has now... but you seem to be a god in texturing...

I've taken the liberty of getting that link (1:1 North-Vietnam air war w. Hanoi)

No screenshots so far in that thread. Like the concept though :)

Hi people, :) I'm thinking in deliver 3 Iwo Jima maps, Pre-Invasion, Invasion and Post-Invasion. The images published above would be for the Invasion map.

The question is, how can I eliminate the fact that now you can land and take off safely from the cratered runways in the Invasion map? :D where is it, in the actors.static? I'm quite clumsy with actors.static and so on.

Cheers!

Great Uufflakke! Thanks for finding that. When I searched there I spelled Hawaii correctly ;) Forgot it wasn't that way in the title.

Get it while you can :) tho the size makes me think it would be a lot of work to retexture this one

That Porto/Sakai doesn't really need a retexturing, it's a jewel as it is now. The stock Hawaii would need a repaint, it's still a wip.

@WhiteCat = your post invasion Iwo Jima is the best version for that map i think, very nice map man

Thanks mate :) I'd like to make one of these videos you do to show your work, just for fun, with some music. Is it any hard to make? Are there any tutorials?

Mmmmm no, it's not hard. If you have a sense of directing there is no difficulty. The only that would take time maybe be is learning how to use editing videos.

Firstly (Kyushu videos) i used Fraps to save videos and virtual dub for compression and editing. VirtualDub was funny to use, a good step to learn but too limitated. I use it only for shots compression now. Now i'm using Sony Vegas Pro for editing since the Palau map....then you enter in another world, the world of prefessional editing.

It's a very complet soft, but very intuitive too, and there is many tutorials on internet, and video tutorials on youtube so the learning is very easy. One week to make Palau's trealer, 3 days for the 4 desert movies i made. The most ambitious were the 2 B29 Superfortress Movies as they were far more complexe to make with a real scenario = 1 month of work for each film.

But it brings a great satisfaction and fun.

So if you want to start i would recommand you Sony Vegas, whatever you are, beginner or confirmed user....you will find you way to make, i'm shure mate  ;)

Mmmmmm it seems a lot of work.... I don't know, my lack of time is bigger than my desire of being the center of attention... ;)

I think I'll dedicate the small time I have to the delivery... only that I wanted to share how fun is to fly over my repaint of Vietnam in a Skyrider listening Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds... :)

Ok i see. I like to fly and hear music in the same time too. Making video takes time you are right, but it's an interresting art, like photography. I would make movie even without moding myself maps. It's a plus, it's not for promotion. It's another way to have fun with a map

Yeah, it's strange you know.. I'm not very visual person, I would create the film to share the fun rather than to create a beautiful thing... There are some really beautiful films around, have you seen the Jafa ones? Look in youtube 'Jafa IL2'

You see, I'm not compelled to do that, but at the same time, I'm compelled really to create the most challenging beautiful and real experience I can have using the IL2 engine, it's something I do for me but I think its nice to share it. For example I thought that I needed good craters for Iwo, then I found some nice NASA's images from the planet Mercury, I dedicated some time to create a craters seamless - carpetless texture from them and got to mingle it, at the right percentages and zoom level, with realistic textures like Mixx ones, mixing everything with some volcanic grey sand, but I couldn't expect the results... the screens don't make them justice at all, believe me... that's really the fun of it for me, the challenging problem solved.
