I was successful with harmonizing texture paletes according to Spdr procedure, but it would be useful to emphasize that newer version of GIMP is necessary, in my case the portable 2.6 version. In the formerly used and recommended 2.2 version, you cannot find "Windows" tab. Once tried, the procedure is straightforward and simple.

I tried the Gimp palette approach and I was successful in changing the colour of my .tga. But I also experienced a problem.

The .tga's I used were forest .tga's with an alpha component. The .tga's had been merged into 1 layer, but the layer was transparent or semi-transparent in parts and opaque in other parts.

When I converted them to an 8-bit 256 colour .tga and saved them, they reloaded without any transparency at all. Just heavy, grey opaque background, instead of clear and transparent.

Can anyone help on this topic?

I would like to retain the transparency in the .tga's.

**********************

Some more experimentation: - I converted to 256 colour 8bit and did the colour conversion, without saving the work or closing the file and exiting. And then, I craftily re-converted the .tga's to RGB mode and then saved and closed the file. When I reloaded them, they had retained their alpha channel.

The only issue I now have is the forest0 .tga, which had come with semi-transparent shadowing already painted in, has solid grey shadows with no transparency at all. Not sure what to do about this....

After you have changed colours of the wood texture save it as a .tga. Just like any other .tga file.
Now you need to copy paste the alpha layer of the original texture to your new version and this is how to do it:

In the toolbar select Layer -> Mask -> Add Layer Mask -> Transfer layer's alpha channel.
Check "Move Active Layer" in the Toolkit.
Hit the "ALT" key while clicking with the left mouse button in the new layer that appears in the right.
The new layer will be surrounded by a green line.
So you can copy and paste it, but before paste it, you need to do the same in the destination texture:
Layer -> Mask -> Add Layer Mask -> Transfer layer's alpha channel
Hit the "ALT" key while clicking with the left mouse's button in the new layer that appears in the right.
Then paste the alpha layer and right click on the layer and select "Anchor layer"
Right click again and "Apply Layer Mask".

And finally save it as a 32-bit .tga.

I tried following your procedure, but got no results. Note that the images, both original and converted are both 1-layer images. The image has to be merged into 1 layer to be saved as a .tga and used in the game.
