Madrid - SCW Map
« on: October 20, 2010, 11:57:35 AM »

A new map is ready for download:

ag_uf_Madrid
https://www.mediafire.com/?d1je4pmrxab2wka

Here is another map for the Spanish Civil War series. It is a relatively small sized map of the Madrid area. It also encompasses the Jarama and Brunete area where hard fighting took place. The main map area is relatively flat, with the famed Meseta of Spain which is a sort of high altitude plateau, beset to the northwest by a range of hills, the Guaderama range.

You may have noticed that the map prefix also includes uf - for uufflakke/Lejo. Without his work the map would never have been possible in this form. Not only did he create the South European Houses and Desert Houses packs which are used very extensively on this map, but he helped on the texturing of files and most importantly in creating virtually all the templates and blocks used to populate the map with villages, towns, hamlets, farms and the city of Madrid with landmarks and more. You'll agree, I'm sure, that this kind of populating is some of the best seen on maps so far. That's also why this map is very suited for close to the ground flying. Without Uufflakke's very creative inspiration in arranging houses and objects into truly Spanish looking towns and villages, it would have been a far poorer map.

Also should be noted that while Madrid itself looks densely populated, it still gets relatively good frame rates when flying over, due to the use of large housing blocks, once again repainted into a Mediterranean style by Uufflakke/Lejo.

The map will require virtually every object made for the game. The notes contain a number of links for those who do not have the objects yet. Most will already be included in the UP2.0 and UP2.10 packs, but even if you have these packs installed, you will still need to install Uufflakke's South European Houses and Desert Houses objects, as well as Mixx's objects from his Khalkin-Gol map repaint.

On this map, we've also used a different type of airfield. There are no runway plates on the map except for invisible groundplates. Otherwise all airfields are rendered using integral textures that blend in better with the surrounding landscape. Airfield textures such as these are by Mixx and Compans, for which thanks. It makes landing more challenging as you really have to keep your eyes peeled to find the airfield to begin with, plus it better simulates the improvisation that went into setting up airfields during the Civil War. They were simple and basic and as such could be placed at a great number of locations.

On the map, about half are in historical locations, the rest are placed to fill in the gaps so to speak.

Here are a few screenshots to give an idea of the map.

_______________

The following links are included in the notes.txt file contained in the download, but just to be clear, here is a list of objects you will certainly need for the map. As said, most are already included in UP2.0/2.01.

If you have trouble saving/flying a mission, then please use the Universal Static.ini Checker first to determine which objects you are missing from your install.

Hi ag, superb work as usual. :)

One small problem:

Can't save in FMB, so I ran the static .ini checker, which tells me the following.....

Missing objects in your static.ini:

buildings.House$]SEchurch10

I know for a fact that this isn't the case. I've checked correct folder in the southern Europe houses mod, and here's my static .ini entry....

[buildings.House$]SEchurch10]
Title           SEchurch10
MeshLive        3do/Buildings/SouthernEurope/SEchurch10/live.sim
MeshDead        3do/Buildings/SouthernEurope/SEchurch10/dead.sim
AlignToLand     0
Body            RockMiddle
Panzer          0.2

One small difference you may have noticed, is that my static .ini checker data doesn't include the open bracket at the start of the title. I've tried removing this in my static .ini and running the check again, but the result is the same.

I'm stuck what to do next. Any ideas?

Thanks again for the excellent work.

That's a good one. I'm not really up to knowledge on objects, but I'd think that if you have the S. Eur. Houses pack, the checker ought not to find the object missing. Does it give anything else missing?

Hi mate, thanks for the rapid response. :)

No, that's the whole checker report.

Here is the entry that I have for that particular object. Now, I got it from the same download as you did probably, but maybe you can try this out. There might be something that looks insignificant that one doesn't see at first ...

In any case, this entry for this object works for me

[buildings.House$]SEchurch10]
Title           SEchurch10
MeshLive        3do/Buildings/SouthernEurope/SEchurch10/live.sim
MeshDead        3do/Buildings/SouthernEurope/SEchurch10/dead.sim
AlignToLand     0
Body            RockMiddle
Panzer          0.2

@Badmuthafunker,
Maybe I can help you out.
SEchurch10 is part of my Southern European House Pack.
You don't need to change anything in the static.ini lines, just leave everyting as it originally was in my download and it should work fine.
I know that when running the static.ini checker these lines pop up. That has to do with a little spelling error I made (that is the bracket after the $ in the entry of SEchurch10 which shouldn't be there)
It happens to me also after using the static.ini checker but despite this spelling error saving missions shouldn't be a problem.
